Improved opponent for Paul Hyland Jr after Holec withdraws injured

Paul Hyland Jr [9(2)-0] will now no longer face Jan Holec on February 6th at the Europa Hotel.

The exciting Belfast lightweight was due to face the Czech southpaw over six rounds in Belfast next month but Holec has unfortunately withdrawn with a hand injury. The Central European fighter suffered this injury last night during a ten-round short-notice defeat in Germany for a minor light welterweight title against Felix Lamm.

Promoter Mark Dunlop, who had already arranged travel for Hovec, admits that he is “totally disgusted with his team” for taking the bout and risking injury when they had already agreed to face his fighter just two weeks later.

However, the Belfast small hall king has quickly secured a new opponent for his 25 year old rising star, with Hyland Jr now down to face Jacek Wylezol [14(8)-12(3)].

Satisfied with the replacement, Dunlop describes the Pole, a former national amateur champion, as being “a level above Holec.”

Irish fans may also remember the former WSB puncher from the MGM ‘New Beginning’ show last July where he was knocked out in two rounds by the World title-chasing Stephen Ormond.

Wylezol, usually a light welterweight, has also lasted the distance with British fighters such as Stephen Smith, Ohara Davies, and Craig Evans.

The bout will be Hyland Jr’s first of 2016 and he will want to build on a successful end to 2015 where he headlined his first show against Bence Molnar at the Europa Hotel, as well as being involved in one of the fights of the year against Virgile Degonzaga at the Waterfront Hall.

Tickets to ‘Elimination – James Fryers v Maxi Hughes’ can be bought from the boxers involved. Tickets are priced at £75.00 VIP Ringside (Including a four course meal), £45.00, Ringside and £35.00 Unreserved. The card, headlined by James Fryers’s British title eliminator with Maxi Hughes, also features James Tennyson, Joe Fitzpatrick, Tyrone McCullagh, and Feargal McCrory.
