Barnes: I would give up my Olympic medals for Frampton to become World champion

PADDY Barnes would give up his record breaking Olympic medal haul to see best mate Carl Frampton crowned Champion of the World tomorrow night.

The Irish amateur legend says he gets more worried about ‘The Jackal’s’ bouts than his own and admits he will be nervous tomorrow night.

“I am more worried about his fights, than my own,” he told Nicky Fullerton of the Belfast News.

“I would give all my Olympic medals back for him to become World champion. That’s how much it means to me.”

Despite being nervous Barnes is sure of the result. He predicts a tough fight for the Cyclone Promotions star, but believes ‘The Jackal’ will win a fight of the year contender inside the distance.

“This is going to be a hard fight, I think people are thinking Carl is just going to turn-up and knock Kiko out.The last fight was tough but I think Carl has improved and he is going to stop him in about six rounds.

“I think there is going to be fireworks and this is going to be one of the fights of the year and it will be one of the best fights Ireland has ever seen,” he added.

“Kiko is aggressive, but Carl is so tough and strong and he hits so hard – he could meet anyone head on and knock him out,” he added.

“He wil be thinking about it. Even when you are sparring someone and they hit you hard – that is always be in your head, that they punch hard.

“Frampton knocked him out and that will be in the back of his head. If it was me – I would be worried,” he added,.
