Anothony Fitzgerald has told rising English prospect Billy Joe Saunders he will fight him on January 27.
The former Olympian offered The EBA middleweight champion a chance to claim a major scalp on last Wednesday night’s York Hall show. However the inner city Dub claims Frank Warren offered him the bout last minute as they know with a full training camp under his belt the Irish super middleweight champion would cause Saunders trouble.
Belfast’s Tommy Tolan stepped at a few days notice and was stopped within a round something Fitzgerald is adamant wouldn’t happen to him if the pair were to clash on his next scheduled outing.
“Billy Joe Saunders is out on the Jan 27 again and I want to fight him. If they offer me the fight now I will take it. They don’t’ want me fully fit and focused Anthony Fitzgerald in against Billy Joe. I have got in touch with Warren‘s people and told them I want the fight.”
