‘A Nation Comes Out to Thank Her’ – Carl Frampton hails Katie Taylor as a hero ahead of Croke Park farewell

“The word hero is thrown around a lot, but Katie Taylor is a hero. And on Saturday night, a nation will be coming out to thank her.”
So says Carl Frampton, a Belfast native and former two-weight world champion, just two days before the biggest event in the history of Irish sport.
‘The Jackal’, a boxing hero and Irish fight legend, has always been an advocate for the two-weight undisputed champion.
The former unified and two-weight world champion would have first heard of the lethal lady from her regular amateur sparring partner Paddy Barnes, before becoming a victim of her hand speed when he shared the training ring with her.
Throughtout he career, he has heralded her talents and waxed lyrical about her achievements. He has also praised Taylor the person and trailblazer.
As such, the boxer, who sold out Windsor Park, is celebrating her farewell and rejoicing in the fact that Ireland gets to say thank you in such a manner.
“The last fight at Croke Park was Muhammad Ali v Al Blue Lewis, so it’s no mean achievement,” the decorated former champion adds.
“There’s been a lot of words thrown around, but Katie is a hero. There’s a lot of people we call heroes.
“It’s been incredible, I’m really looking forward to it, and she deserves it.
“The amount of people that have reached out to me for tickets… not even boxing fans, just Katie Taylor fans. “
