McComb under no pressure to look good
Sean McComb’s brilliant start to pro life has generated a large degree of excitement and hype.
Back to back stoppage wins on high profile cards have got people talking, but the Belfast novice isn’t one to get carried away.
âThe Public Nuisanceâ has racked up two quick-fire stoppage wins since ending a decorated amateur career to turn professional and such were his performances that he has earned a slot on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders vs. Demetrius Andrade in Boston on October 20.
However, McComb claims he is under no pressure to continue his destructive start. The 26 year old is more intent on just securing wins rather than looking good in doing so.
“Thereâs no pressure at all because I donât care if I stop people or not. If people are disappointed I donât knock someone out, I donât care.
âI donât care if I win a scrappy performance on points. Itâs all about winning. All the other stuff is blocked out.
âI just focus on preparing. Iâm a full-time athlete and thatâs the way it is. I have been for five or six years so I know how to manage myself with training and food. I also know when to take time off.
âItâs working in my favour that I know how to control myself, how hard to train and when my sparring starts etc. Itâs a big part of it and my trainer Danny Vaughan and I discuss it. Thatâs key when youâre out again so soon.
âYou canât tell when youâve overtrained because your mind is telling you you should be training because you have a big fight â whether thatâs Stateside or in Belfast. You simply have to treat it as any other fight.â
McCombâs outing in Belfast takes place on a stacked BoxNation card headlined by Tyrone McCullaghâs European title fight and also including Steven Ward, Conrad Cummings, Paddy Gallagher, Marco McCullough, Padraig McCrory, Steven Donnelly, Gary Cully, Nathaniel May, Sean McGlinchey and more.
