VIDEO: O’Reilly attentions switch to securing Rio 2016 spot

Michael O’Reilly had to settle for bronze at the AIBA World Elite Championships in Doha, Qatar after losing out to Bektemir Melikuieve of Uzbekistan on a split decision in a high-quality middleweight semi-final.

However, the European Games champion is not done yet in Doha. He’ll now meet Egypt’s Abdin Kosam in a box-off for a place at the Olympic Games. The top three middleweights in Doha qualify for Rio.

Speaking after his reverse O’Reilly wasn’t too down beat content to have secured a medal in his first World Championships, while High Performance director Billy Walsh was keen to point out the Portlaoise native can’t switch off just yet with an Olympic place up for grabs on Thursday.
