Sutherland returns home
9 March 2009 – By Mark Doyle
Promoter Frank Maloney has revealed that Darren Sutherlands next outing is likely to be in Dublin in May.
Former amateur star Sutherland, who won a bronze medal in last years Olympics in Beijing, took his professional record to 2-0 with a third-round stoppage win over Siarhei Navarka in Wigan on Friday night.
Maloney is very wary of rushing his latest protg but intends to keep the rising super-middleweight star very active in the coming months.
Darren is taking notice of his lessons and applying what he has learned in the gym. He is sitting down on his shots and getting a lot of power into them,” he is quoted as saying by The Sun.
He was working very well behind his jab also, and hes constantly trying to create different angles.
“Im very pleased with Darrens performance. Ive said all along that we have a very special talent here and he is moving along nicely at this point.
His next fight should be in Dublin in May. He will have another four fights before the end of this year, possibly five.
Sutherland made his pro debut at his former college, Dublin City University, in December of last year.
