Smokescreen – O’Toole accuses Cronin of avoiding Galway v Kerry clash

Thomas O’Toole [4(3)-0] has accused Kevin Cronin [5(2)-0] of using a super middleweight smoke screen to avoid a Galway v Kerry clash.

The ‘Connemara Kid’ has been making his Cronin intentions clear since the ‘Kingdom Warrior’ ended a frustrating period out of the ring with victory in England last Saturday.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com the Celtic Eagles graduate revealed it’s a fight he’d love and one he believes would capture the attention domestically.

“It’s definitely a fight I want,” he said.

“He’s 5-0 I’m 4-0, we can do it for an Irish or Celtic title. We both have huge support and it’s Kerry v Galway, it’s a great fight.

“It’s one that could happen anywhere in Ireland, outside even, but there would be huge excitement in Ireland for it I think.”

Cronin has been vocal about wanting domestic dust-ups since he turned over and hasn’t been afraid to name-drop Irish fighters in and around his weight.

Indeed, the Munster man has hinted he has agreed to a big fight and has a November 19 bout lined up. Irish-boxing.com understands that to be a clash with Dublin’s Robbie Burke, with strong rumour suggesting a super middleweight title will be on the line if they do fight.

However, O’Toole isn’t as sure and thinks super middleweight talk is a deflection tactic.

“After being called out he conveniently said he is dropping down and his opponent is confirmed. He was calling out super middleweights while he’s still light heavy. I don’t think he would want to fight me.”

If the fight did happen, the Ryan Roach managed westerner believes he would emerge victorious.

“If the fight happened there would only be one winner, me without a doubt, but it’s about the excitement we would generate,” he adds before revealing he non Cronin related fight news is pending.

“My next fight is looking like November, I’ll have an announcement soon!”
