Ryan Burnett [14(9)-0] feels that he will be able for the first big step up of his career on Saturday night in Liverpool.

The Belfast bantamweight defends his British title for the first time at the Echo Arena against local boy Ryan Farrag this weekend on the Tony Bellew v BJ Flores undercard.

Farrag [16(4)-2(1)] represents the toughest test of Burnett’s career thus far, but it’s a test that he feels he can pass with flying colours.

Speaking today at the press conference for the bout, Burnett stressed that the challenge of the former European champion is not too much too soon.

The 24 year old explained how “I don’t think it’s a step too far, but it’s a step up.”

“Any great fighter has to go in to someone’s backyard and win.”

Burnett is happy with the progression, and noted how “Ryan won’t go in his shell and will be there all night.”

“It’s perfect timing for me.”
