New debut date for Gary Sweeney

Gary Sweeney has had more luck than most in terms of fight dates falling through, so it seems almost fitting that he will finally step through the ropes on Friday the 13th.

The Galway cruiserweight punches for pay for the first time on May 13th in Bolton.

The Premier Suite of the Macron Stadium (formerly Reebok Stadium) will be the venue for “The Gallant” who will appear on the undercard of Jack Catterall’s defence of his WBO Intercontinental light welterweight title versus Joe Hughes.

Speaking ahead of the clash, the Westerner admitted that “I am really looking forward to getting started,”

“I want to show everyone what I can do!”

The bout will be shown live on Boxnation TV.

Sweeney won’t be the only Irishman on the card, with Belfast super featherweight Ciaran McVarnock also appearing, as well as Manchester-born former light middleweight World title challenger Jimmy ‘Kilrain’ Kelly.
