Magee looking for final shot

March 2008

Former IBO Supermiddleweight Champion Brian Magee returns to the ring on March 7 in Nottingham. Now campaigning as a light-heavyweight, the 32-year-old southpaw faces Tyrone Wright (7-1-1) as he seeks one last shot at the championship classes.

Having built up a sizeable fanbase, Magee’s best days came in a string of Kings Hall performances in 2003/4 which left him on the cusp of a big four World Title shot. However, defeat at the hands of Robin Reid placed the Holy Trinity man on the outside. A thrilling, if unsuccessful British title challenge to Carl Froch followed, before a controversial draw with Tony Oakey for the British light-heavy crown.

The bout takes place on the undercard of Kiko Martinez’s European title defence against Rendall Munroe, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 2.
