Lynn Harvey hit by opponent withdrawal
Dublin light flyweight Lynn Harvey [2(2)-1(0)] has been dealt a blow following the withdrawal of her upcoming opponent.
The Hunter was due to box former Spanish flyweight title challenger Maribel De Sousa [1(0)-9(1)] over six rounds on Saturday night at the National Stadium on the Red Corner Promotions ‘Unfinished Business.’
It looked to be a tough test for the Kilbarrack fighter and it was hoped that the bout would exorcise any lingering demons for Harvey who was defeated by a Spaniard at the same venue back in November.
However, it was revealed today that De Sousa will not be making the trip to Dublin due to an inability to make the 108lbs weight.
Thankfully a new opponent has been quickly sourced, and Harvey will face Romanian Sara Regina Coca [0-1(0)].
A complete unknown quantity, flyweight Coca has fought just once, last month, losing widely to debutant Yolanda Ramos.
Harvey is unaffected by the change, and said that “I’m not phased. Fully confident that I’ll adapt whatever way I need to. I’ve a strong team behind me and a strong frame of mind. Bring it on!”
Considering that Harvey was defeated by Mary Romero, who weighed in 4lbs heavier and most likely rehydrated even further up the scales, the ensuring of an appropriately-sized opponent is encouraging to see.
