IBF eliminator for Lindsay

21 May 2010 – Press Release

Martin Lindsay is just one win away from a shot at IBF featherweight champion Orlando Salido.

The British champion has been matched in an IBF eliminator against Australian Billy Dib with the winner guaranteed to become mandatory contender for the Mexicans title. Undefeated Lindsay has accepted the governing bodys offer and if Dib turns down the clash, the Belfast man will be matched with the next available contender.

Lindsays promoter Frank Maloney said, It is great news for Martin and realistically he could become world champion by early next year.

We are still awaiting confirmation that Dib has accepted the eliminator and once I get the okay we will start private negotiations.

If that fails then the fight will go to purse bids, but I am confident of bringing Dib to Belfast for what would be an amazing night.

Maloney compares Lindsay with his other stable star Rendall Munroe who challenges for the WBC super-bantamweight title later this year. He added, This route of fighting at domestic and European level worked for Rendall and it will for Martin.

They are both throwback fighters who will face whatever opposition is put in front of them.

Lindsay (16-0) is scheduled to make a voluntary defence of his British title on Friday July 2 but that now depends on deadlines set by the IBF.

Maloney explained, I am waiting to hear back from the IBF about dates for the elimination bout and if it is too close to July 2 then the domestic title defence will not take place.

Dib (26-1), 24, has been compared with nine stone great Naseem Hamed and his only loss came on points against in a WBO title clash Steven Luevano in October 2008.
