What is Glove? Tyrone McKenna to face Adaway on Saturday

Belfast welterweight Tyrone McKenna [9(3)-0-1] has been handed a tricky assignment for his fight on Saturday in Wales

‘The Mighty Celt’ will take on Englishman Chris Adaway [4(0)-16(4)-2] at the Cardiff Ice Arena on the Boxnation-aired card.

While 22 year old Adaway does not have an impressive record, and hasn’t won in his last twelve fights, he is well known across Britain for being a tough acid test for up-and-coming prospects.

Less than a year ago Adaway gave Romeo Romaeo the toughest fight of his career, losing a disputed 76-77 decision, and since then has slipped into journeyman mode.

Nevertheless the Plymouth puncher continues to come and fight, looking to win, and taking his fair share of rounds against touted hotshots.

For 26 year old McKenna, the fight is a welcome return to the ring following his unfortunate technical draw last time out in Spain after a first-round clash of heads with journeyman Arvydas Trizno.

The six-round bout will play out on the undercard of the Queensbury Promotions triple header that sees Guillermo Rigondeaux defend his reclaimed WBA super bantamweight title against Jazza Dickens, Terry Flanagan making the third defence of his WBO lightweight crown, and a mouth-watering British and Commonwealth light middleweight title clash between home favourite Liam Williams and London-Irishman Gary Corcoran.

Also appearing on the undercard will be Galway cruiser Gary Sweeney against rugged Czech Marek Gabor, and Belfast’s Commonwealth super flyweight beltholder Jamie Conlan against Czech champ Patrik Bartos.
