The Swindon-Donegal super middle was involved in what can only be described as a street-fight with Argentine Martin Fidel Rios, taking a wide points decision win in an ugly and bad-blooded affair.
In total, five points were deducted between the two fighters, leading to a final scorecard of 98:86 in favour of Cox.
Cox was first to be penalised in the second round for hitting round the back of the head. The Wrecking Machine then scored a knockdown in the third and Rios’s subsequent spitting out of the gum-shield led to him having a point docked. The eighth saw both given deductions when Cox headbutted the South American in retaliation for a bite. The nasty clash was quite leniently officiated by Phil Edwards who gave Rios a third point off in the ninth for hitting on the break.
Cox moved to 21(12)-0 following the scrap while Rios fell to 20(11)-10(2)-3.
