Frampton on Santa Cruz: “I know what he’s about, he can’t do anything different than he did last time”

Carl Frampton [23(14)-0] is anticipating that he will need to, at the very least, match his monumental performance against Leo Santa Cruz [32(18)-1(0)-1] in New York last Summer when the pair rematch in Las Vegas early next year.

Frampton defends his newly-won WBA featherweight title against the Mexican-American at the MGM Grand on Saturday January 28th and is confident he can even improve on that win in the Barclays Centre back in July.

Speaking to UTV, The Jackal admitted that the Fight of the Year contender in Brooklyn “was one of my better performances I believe,” and outlined how “it’s going to take that again and maybe a bit more.”

However, the Belfast man feels that he has room to improve upon his maiden featherweight victory. Frampton recalled how “there were mistakes that I made, I should have been countering a bit more. I was making him miss but I wasn’t pulling the trigger quick enough.”

On the other hand, Frampton does not think that El Terremoto can adjust and claim revenge, reasoning that “I know what he’s about, he can’t do anything different than he did last time. He threw 1,100 punches last time, he can’t throw more than that.”
