Darren Cruise and John Waldron are the latest Irish fighters to add a woman’s touch to their stagnant careers.
The Western duo are the latest to saddle up with the Iron Lady of Irish boxing Maria Ni Shiuilleabhain.
Ni Shiuilleabhain already snapped up Alan Donnellan last month and has already set up a busy fight schedule, which includes three fights before March, for the Limerick based Galway fighter.
Middleweight Cruise and Light Heavyweight Waldron, who where both previously signed to Dolphil Promotions, will be hoping for similar results.
Career re invigoration has to be the pairs New Years Resolution as they both suffered a poor 2011. Roscommon’s Cruise lost his unbeaten status when he suffered a reverse at the gloves of Leeds based Lee Murtagh, whilst Mayo’s Waldron was stopped by Ciaran Healy and Michael Sweeney in Irish title fights over the last 12 months.
Ni Shiuilleabhain is confident, however both can register better innings over the next 12 months.
“I am thrilled that Darren and John have joined the team. I hope to help them develop their skills and make their mark on the boxing circuit over the coming year with the help of their coach Finton Glynn. We plan to work closely to get the best out of Darren and John in 2012 and make it his most successful year to date,” Ni Shiuileabhain told www.irish-boxing.com
“We are discussing the plan of action for the year ahead and once they are back on a winning streak we will hopefully end the year on a high, possibly with a title shot.”
The female promoter is also looking add female boxers to her books and is keen to develop the female side of the game in Ireland.
“I would love to have some female boxers on the books. I really want to see women develop into pros in Ireland, there is such a high standard of Irish female boxers out there.”
