Barnes Glad To Have Company in Tommy McCarthy

By Paddy Appleton

Boxing can be a lonely sport at times, especially in the professional game and it takes a strong mentality to deal with the issue.

So with that in mind Paddy Barnes told us he will be glad of the company in Turkey for his final Olympic qualifier in April.

Barnes has been part of the amateur senior team for a few years now, and he has seen many come and go but this year’s team has a real camaraderie about it.

He is one of the experienced members of the team, and much will be expected from him in Trabzon.

With the expectation high Barnes is happy to have a few fellow Belfast men around him on the squad, and he’ll welcome the company of Tommy McCarthy next month.

“I’ve been on the senior team for 6 years now, I know every lad inside out here anyway and we get on well.

“But Tommy is a friend from home also, so it’ll be good for the both of us I think. Although saying that, I refuse to share a room with him, he is the loudest snorer ever!”

Let’s hope Paddy’s standard in Turkey is as high as Tommy’s snoring is loud, London 2012 awaits for both with success in Trabzon.
