McGrit: Macklin will shock the world on Paddys Day
By Jonny Stapleton
Buddy McGirt is backing Matthew Macklin to shock the world in New York’s MSG on St Patrick’s Day.
The American trainer teamed up with the Irish middleweight for the second time in his

career and is confident his charge will defeat Ring Magazine world champ Sergio Martinez to significantly grow his reputation in the Garden.
Mack The Knifeâ, who trained with Joe Gallagher for his shot at Felix Sturmâs WBA strap, relocated Stateside to prepare for his fight with the Argentine and McGrit claims he is in pristine shape.
âMatthew is in great shape for this fight. Iâve worked with him for the Yori Boy Campas fight a few years back so Iâve been aware for a long time just how good he is. Weâre not going to shout or boast about doing this or that. Matthewâs just going to go in there and let his fists do the talking. I must say though that I am very confident that he is going to shock an awful lot of people in this fight.â
Former European, Macklin has been talking a good fight in the build up to the biggest clash of his career. The Brian Peters managed star claims he will go to war to exceed the middleweight bar set by the Argentine. McGrit, however claims his charge wonât get âtoo machoâ and will use guile as well as guts to achieve greatness.
“We know you can’t walk straight in on Martinez and I don’t want my guy to get too macho, I want him to fight smart,” McGirt said. “Martinez is strong, awkward but effective.”
