Three Irish fighters in medal action at European U22 Championships
Ireland’s three remaining fighters are in action at the European U22 Championships in Romania today.
Guaranteed bronze medalists Aoife O’Rourke and Amy Broadhurst both look to upgrade to silver in the evening session while Galway’s Gabriel Dossen looks to button down a bronze in the afternoon.
World and European Youth bronze medalist Dossen, a welterweight competing here at middleweight, takes on Georgian Giorgi Kharabadze at around 1:15pm (Irish time) in Ring A.
Kharabadze is a Youth Olympian, a European Junior gold medalist, and a European Youth bronze medalist – where he was defeated in the semis by John Joyce whom Dossen himself defeated in the semis of the recent Irish under 22s.
Louth lightweight Broadhurst, who guaranteed her bronze only yesterday, takes on French fighter Belinda Limuka at about 5:00pm (Irish time) in Ring A. Limuka is an EU Junior gold medalist, where she beat Ireland’s Ciara Sheedy.
Finally, in Ring B at around 5:30pm (Irish time), Roscommon middleweight O’Rourke takes on Carlotta Paoletti who has stepped down from 81kg where she recently won the Italian senior title. Both fighters received a bye straight into the semi-finals.
