Report: Alejandro González Jr found dead aged 23

In some distressing news, it is being reported tonight that Alejandro González Jr has been found dead in Mexico.

ESPN Deportes report that the boxer was found, apparently murdered, in a Jeep near his home in Guadalajara alongside two others – one of whom is believed to be his grandfather.

Further details or motives are unknown.

Cobríta González, son of former world champion Alejandro González Sr, sprang to prominence in July 2015 when he challenged for Carl Frampton’s IBF super bantamweight title in El Paso, Texas. The unheralded Mexican knocked the Belfast man down twice in the opening round, but ‘The Jackal’ would fight back to score a unanimous decision win.

González was just 23 years old.
