Haughian closes in on Walsh

13 January 2009 – By Cormac Campbell

Stephen Haughian and Billy Walsh look set to meet in a mouth-watering clash for the Irish welterweight title in Craigavon on February 7.

The long-anticipated bout will see champion Walsh travel North in to the lion’s den for a clash against home favourite Haughian.

Haughian, who is working in Breens Gym in Belfast with Paul McCloskey, Neil Sinclair and more recently Andy Murray, will go in to the bout as a heavy betting favourite, despite Corkman Walshs position as national champion.

Haughian has been nominated in the Best Prospect category of the Irish-boxing.com National Boxing Awards ceremony on January 24, which is now sold out.
