Frampton’s cheeky response to being stripped by WBA

Team Cyclone made it clear post Scott Quigg that Guillermo Rigondeaux was an option, but certainly not the preferred one.

Once the Belfast fighter had added the WBA title to his IBF strap to become Ireland’s first unified World champion, the talented Cuban, who was mistreated and striped by the WBA himself, became his mandatory.

However, Shingo Wake has a similar claim as he was next in line for the IBF strap. So ‘The Jackal’ was left with the option of facing the Cuban and vacating his IBF title in favour  of the less stable and respected governing body or fighting Wake, if he stayed at super bantamweight.

While he explores a possible mega Summer bout with Leo Santa Cruz at featherweight with Wake in Belfast as a fall back option the WBA stripped Frampton.

Instant ‘ducking Rigondeaux’ claims filled Twitter feeds, despite the fact the World champ claimed he would love to fight the two time Olympic champion, but his team don’t feel it makes financial sense.

However, Frampton took to Twitter and with his usual quick wit attempted to silence the Twitter trolls.

Frampton took in his beloved Crusaders live and wasn’t in hiding.
