1939: On the day that World War 2 began, two vacant Irish titles were fought for in Tolka Park.

Dubliner Eddie Martin forced a fourth round retirement loss on Manchester-born debutant Johnny Daly to take the Irish lightweight strap, while Dublin bantam Billy Phelan outpointed another debutant, Mick O’Neill, over ten to take the bantamweight belt.
