Corcoran aiming to get back at immature Williams for face-off slap

London-Irishman Gary Corcoran has a score to settle with Liam Williams [14(9)-0-1] on Saturday night at the Ice Arena in Cardiff.

The Wembley light middleweight and his Welsh opponent already do not like each other, and tensions reached boiling point last month at a press conference when Williams landed a slap on Corcoran during the head to head.

The pair were quickly separated before the Hellraiser could retaliate, but Corcoran is confident that he will get the chance at the weekend.

The 25 year old recalled how “Williams said he’d knock me out at the face-off and our heads went into each other.”

“Then he took a liberty and slapped me. I should’ve given him a slap back but he backed away sharpish.”

“I’ll be touching him back in the face with interest in the ring on Saturday night!”

Boxing has seen Corcoran become a reformed and determined figure, rescuing him from a troubled childhood that saw him expelled from school nineteen times.

Indeed the old-school hardman believes that he has a mental edge over the British and Commonwealth champion, and described how “Liam’s trouble is he sees the red mist too quickly.”

“That was me a year or so ago. Immature.”

“When I told him I’d meet him mid-ring at the presser, he reacted immediately.”

“If he meets me mid ring, I guarantee I’ll put him on the back foot. I’m stronger than him, faster than him and I use my head more. I’ll beat him because of the brain he says I haven’t got!”
