Big Sexy to warm-up for Irish title fight with tough test

Sean Turner [10(7)-0] will warm up for his recently-sanctioned Irish title fight with a tough test next month.

The Dublin big man will box on the MTK Birmingham ‘Exchange at the Grange’ show on Saturday April 22nd in Solihull.

Here, at the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Turner will finally face Polish toughman Kamil Sokolowski [2(0)-9(2)].

Big Sexy was initially due to face the Plymouth-based boxer on the inaugural Ginley Promotions bill at the start of the month only for Turner to be forced off the card. The two were then set to fight on the Belfast Boys Are Back card a week later, but Sokolowski would withdraw.

Turner would stop Igor Mihaljevic inside two on the Waterfront Hall card.

The bout in just over three weeks time is dependent on Sokolowski coming through his fight with AJ Carter tomorrow night in London unscathed

The fight will be Turner’s first with new trainer Pete Taylor, whom he has linked up with full time in the past few weeks.

Like the Mihaljevic bout before it, the match-up allows for comparison between the Dubliner and his upcoming Irish title opponent Con Sheehan. The Tipperary big man went the distance with both fighters.

Turner is determined to take the short route, and explained that “I plan on stopping every opponent I step in the ring with, I like to get the job done because you don’t get paid for overtime in boxing.”

“If I manage to stop Sokolowski it would make a great statement. After I beat him I want to fight Con Sheehan for the Irish heavyweight title.”
