High Performance boss Zaur Antia admits he isn’t fully aware of the ins and outs of the Micheal O’Reilly case, but reiterated the IABA and Ireland has zero tolerance for doping.

O’Reilly is currently in fight limbo after being suspended after news of a positive drug test broke on Wednesday. The slick middleweight is awaiting B sample results and is hopeful of fighting on Friday in the Games as a result.

Ireland got off to a positive start despite talk of a positive test result for O’Reilly hanging over them taking two wins from two contests on Sunday and Antia, whose official label is ‘Interim High Performance Head Coach’, fielded questions regarding the Portlaoise BC man following the first of the two victories.

Speaking yesterday as to whether or not he expected O’Reilly will fight on Friday he said

“I don’t know exactly this.”

“The boxers are getting ready, everybody has a focus – everybody is engaged in the plan and everybody has his agenda. About O’Reilly I can’t say anything at the moment. I don’t know anything about this.”

“All I know, Ireland always has zero tolerance for that issue. I’m only focusing to look after the rest.”

“So zero tolerance towards doping, as always Ireland has a good resolution to fight against this. We don’t know what happened yet but we will see what happens later.”
