Young Sligo duo to turn professional

Sligo is set to have two new pros enter the Irish pro ranks in the coming weeks.

Ballinacarrow duo Aaron Gethins and James Lynch have both linked up with Irish boxing veteran Tony Davitt for an assault on the pro ranks.

18-year-old Gethins is a three-time Irish underage champion and represented the country at the 2015 European Junior Championships, reaching the quarter-finals.

A long, powerful southpaw with a classy skillset, Davitt believes he has one of the top prospects in the country on his hands and it is intended for Gethins to debut before the end of the year.

22-year-old Lynch, also a welterweight, is a come-forward, fight-anyone brawler. While he has no major national amateur achievements Davitt notes how he is as “game as a badger.”

The duo join the TDP stable alongside Lucan welter John Joyce and Ballybrack super feather Niall O’Connor.

Both will remain at Ballincarrow BC training under Irish heavyweight brothers Alan and Stephen Reynolds while Gethins will make weekly trips to Dublin for training with Davitt at Paschal Collins’s Celtic Warriors Gym.
