Young Crumlin star to turn pro

One of the brightest talents to come through the famous Crumlin BC over the past few years has made the big decision to turn pro.

Irish-Boxing.com can confirm that Dubliner Aiden Metcalfe is to turn pro, with a debut date to be confirmed in the near future.

The 22 year old, younger brother of fellow Crumlin fighter Evan, has signed on the dotted line with Boxing Ireland Promotions.

A talented underage boxer, Metcalfe was runner-up at the 2012 Intermediates and a competitor in the 2013 Seniors. Following a few years away from the sport, Metcalfe would return for the 2016 Intermediates and was set to fight on the Semi-Pro Boxing Ireland card in February but saw his fight with Kieran Kenny fall through.

The eventual aim is for Metcalfe to campaign at featherweight.

Stephen Sharpe of Boxing Ireland Promotions would tell Irish-Boxing.com that ā€œIā€™m really excited that Aiden has come on board, he is a really talented lad and have no doubt that he can do really well as a professionalā€

ā€œI have watched Aiden over the years and he is a naturally gifted lad, he has done well as an amateur and myself and Leonard Gunning will work hard at providing him the opportunities to develop as a professionalā€.

ā€œAiden is in the process of applying for his licence and we hope to get him out as soon as we canā€.
