Wilton: Haskins loss won’t affect my flyweight title pursuit

He was stopped within two rounds of his last contest, but Luke Wilton is adamant is on the verge of British and European title success.

It might seem strange for a fighter to crawl up of the canvas and make such bold claims, but ‘Winky’s’ defeat to Lee Haskin came after he jumped up two weights and took a fight at two days notice.

As a result the former British title challenger isn’t reading too much into the reverse and believes a return to flyweight will see him return to his best.

The Belfast fighter has now set his sights on British and European glory at the flyweight limit.

“I felt I had to get past the first four rounds to do any damage, as he was big and strong. I had everything against me the weight, preparation, size, strength and I was in his backyard. So it was a big ask,” Wilton told Irish-boxing.com

“The loss won’t affect my flyweight ratings, I’m ranked four in Europe at flyweight so I will pursue British or European titles now.”
