It was a quiet weekend for Irish boxing following on from the massive November 5th double fight night. There were however some Irish boxers in action around the globe on Saturday.

Dennis Hogan [25(7)-1(0)-1] scored a very good win in Brisbane. The Kildare light middleweight scored a wide technical decision win over dangerous Taiwanese fighter Yao Yi Ma at the Eastons Hotel to defend his WBO Oriental title for the first time.

There was Irish interest at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen where Jamesy Gorman [8(3)-29(3)-1] and Alec Bazza [0-20(3)-1] warmed up for their all-Irish clashes in Belfast next weekend with four-round losses to Marek Laskowski and Arturs Selivanovs respectively. The pair will now face Shortty Carroll and Mathew Fitzsimons on November 26th at the Shorts Sports and Social Club. Also on the card in Scotland was MHD’s Ronnie Clark [17(10)-3(1)-2] who scored an impressive first round stoppage of Hungarian Olympian Norbert Kalucza.

Dundalk’s Michael Kelly [9(3)-8(4)-1] made the trip over to Ukraine for a fight with hot prospect Mishiko Beselia, and was stopped inside a round.

Finally, Irish-American light welter Matt ‘The Mantis’ Doherty [5(3)-3(0)-1] got back to winning ways in Portland, Maine, scoring a third round stoppage of Josue Rivera.
