It was a busy weekend for Irish boxing across the water with six wins and a loss.

On Friday night in Grays, Irish Tommy Carter fell to a second round knockout loss to the unbeaten Tey Lynn-Jones. Middleweight Carter, now 1(0)-3(1), will look to rebuild on a home show at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre on November 18th.

At the Tudor Grange Leisure Centre in Solihill on Saturday there were three points wins out of three for Irish fighters. Fighting on the MGM Birmingham ‘Momentum’ show, Con Sheehan, Tyrone McKenna, and Jono Carroll didn’t drop a round between them.

Heavyweight Con Sheehan, fighting for the first time in nine months and the first time under Peter Fury, scored a comfortable 40:36 win over Croat Igor Mihaljevic. The Tipp giant moves to 2(0)-0 and is out again next Saturday at the Old Trafford cricket ground in Manchester

Jono Carroll, making his MGM debut, looked sharp and aggressive against Lithanian Simas Volosinas over four rounds, and will now hope for a return to more regular action as he aims to kick-start his career. Now standing at 11(1)-0, and still just 24 years old. the title-eligible super featherweight will be looking for big fights in the near future.

Light welter Tyrone McKenna comfortably outpointed (60:54) Danny Little to move to 11(3)-0-1 and the Belfast slickster will now aim for a big fight, potentiall against a domestic rival on the Belfast Boxnation card.

Over in Spain on Saturday, Sean Turner finally got his first win of 2016. The Dublin heavyweight defeated Estonian Valeri Semiskur in Malaga. Big Sexy scored a highlight-reel second round knockout to move to 8(6)-0.

On the big Anthony Crolla v Jorge Linares card at the Manchester Arena, Liam Conroy was in some off-camera action. The Galway-Barrow light heavyweight was initially due to fight in a British title eliminator but the withdrawal of his scheduled opponent, Tomi Tatham, led to him instead facing tough Frenchman Baptiste Castegnaro over six rounds. MGM’s Conroy survived a count in the fourth round and emerged with a hard-fought win and improves his record to 11(3)-3(1)-1. The 24 year old will now aim to secure a refixed date for his title eliminator.

At the York Hall in London, welterweight Dan-Dan Keenan had his third professional win. The teenager of Cork descent outpointed Bulgarian Teodor Boyadjiev to move to 3-0.
