Weekend Preview: October 14th-15th

It’s another busy weekend for Irish boxing with a title defence and a big Stateside card. Below is every Irish fighter in action this weekend.

Starting us off on Friday morning in Australia is Ballymena’s Joe Rea [11(4)-30(13)-5]. Fighting at the Silverdome Basketball Stadium in Tasmania, Síucra Rea faces former Australian title challenger Wade Ryan over six rounds at middleweight.

On Saturday in Liverpool it is the big one, with Ryan Burnett [14(9)-0] travelling into the lion’s den to defend his British bantamweight title against Ryan Farrag. The Belfast man’s bout at the Echo Arena on the Tony Bellew v BJ Flores undercard will be shown live on Sky Sports.

At the Dolman Exhibition Hall in Bristol, David ‘The Throwback’ Bailey [5(0)-0] makes his homecoming. The Bristol Bomber of Galway descent will face a to-be-confirmed opponent.

Finally, the biggest card of Irish interest this week actually occurring across the Atlantic. The third annual Murphys Boxing Monster Brawl takes place at the Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts, and will be headlined by World title-chasing Portlaoise super bantamweight TJ Doheny [15(11)-0] who takes on Ernesto Guerrero.

Also on the card is Wexford heavyweight Niall Kennedy [5(3)-0] who will be hoping for his fourth consecutive US win, and knockout, over Henry Namauu. Stevie Collins Jr [9(4)-0-1] gears up for his first headline fight next month on the Red Corner November 5th show with a six-round bout v Nicholas Lavin here. Then there is Athlone welter Paddy Irwin [2(2)-0] who looks to continue his perfect start to life in the pros against Shavonte Dixon.
