WATCH: Kenneth Egan’s return to the ring in Uganda

Irish Olympic hero Kenneth Egan stepped into the ring again at the weekend.

In what was his first proper fight in five years, the Dubliner was in action in Uganda in support of the charity Nurture Africa.

Egan took on active pro Joey Vegas, himself a former Olympian and a travelling gatekeeper who has fought multiple world champions.

Advertised as a charity exhibition bout, the fight at the Big Zone in Nansala was anything but.

Fought over six rounds, there was nothing held back, with both 35 year old boxers looking to land big shots.

Beijing 2008 silver medalist Egan gave away a fair amount of size, but the smart southpaw showed he still has it, raiding Vegas well early on and repelling a late charge from the African.

In the spirit of the occasion, the fight was declared a majority draw, with two judges scoring the bout 60-60, with a third giving Egan the nod on a scoreline of 58-56.
