Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] ]has weighed in towards the upper limit of the light welterweight division as she seeks to become a two-weight world champion

The undisputed lightweight champion takes on WBO 140lbs champion Christina Linardatou [12(6)-1(0)] tomorrow night in Manchester and, unlike many in women’s professional boxing, made full use of the extra pounds.

Looking strong on the scales, the Bray boxer outweighed the Dominican-Greek champion, coming in at 9 stone, 13 pounds, 9 ounces (139.6lbs/63.32kg).

Linardatou, making her second defence, would come in at 9 stone, 12 lbs, 8 ounces (138.5lbs/62.82kg).

For Taylor, it was the heaviest she has weighed in as a fighter throughout her career, a full half a stone above where she campaigned in the amateurs.

The Wicklow woman walks around just a few pounds above the light welterweight limit – indeed a spell at super featherweight had previously been mooted.

However. Taylor has stated repeatedly that she is comfortable at both lightweight and now light welter and will make her first move into the new division tomorrow night at the Manchester Arena.

While there is a steely confidence about Linardatou, the pair’s face-off was short and respectful – as has come to be expected at Taylor weigh-ins.
