Warren and Hearn to come to Belfast this year

Belfast’s reputation as the capital of Irish-boxing looks set to be cemented further as both Eddie Hearn of Matchroom and Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions looked to be TV fight cards to the city.

Hearn, Matchroom and Sky had planned an April 30 show in the City but elected against a Spring date in preference for a May Scottish fight night which will play  host to a Ricky Burns World title challenge.

By all accounts Hearn has elected to push the fight date back to September and is confident the show will be a bigger success as bill topper Ryan Burnett can get more exposure between now and the proposed fight night.

The break also means proposed undercard fighters can also increase their profile and their ranking before a home coming show. Tommy McCarthy could by that stage be a British title challenger, Jono Carroll will have another fight on a World title card under his belt, indeed he could have a first pro belt to display by the time he takes to the Belfast ring, the same could be said of Luke Keeler, who fights Tom Doran on an eagerly anticipated April 2 clash, while Phil Sutcliffe Jr is hopeful of securing a Sky fight date before the proposed September show.

Matchroom and Cyclone Promotions, if Carl Frampton’s next fight is in Belfast, may not be the only promoters to bring TV card to Belfast this year as Frank Warren is planning to come to the city with his new Belfast Boys.

Warren has recently added World super flyweight title hopeful Jamie Conlan and British featherweight title challenger James Tennyson to a stable that already includes talented prospect Joe Fitzpatrick.

If both win on April 30 London shows Warren has expressed an interest in going to Belfast and could even do the eagerly anticipated Paul Butler versus Conlan clash in the city.
