VOTE: The Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month – FEBRUARY

By Joe O'Neill | on March 5, 2019 |
Amateur Features Headline News

2019 is well and truly underway and it’s time for the second Liffey Crane Hire Irish Boxer of the Month vote of the year.

A big month which featured a pro show and the National Elite Senior Championships, we have a high-quality seven-strong shortlist.

Voting is open until midnight Friday with results to be posted on Saturday morning.

And the nominees are:

James Tennyson
Lightweight
The Poleglass puncher returned from his world title loss and, stepping up in weight, looked fearsome in his destruction of Portsmouth’s Garry Neale.

Feargal McCrory
Super Featherweight
The Coalisland puncher temporarily stepped up to lightweight where he would win the Irish title with a gruelling ninth-round stoppage of Karl Kelly.

Paul Hyland Jr
Lightweight
Facing a bigger foe, Lagmore’s Hyland was able to dig deep to largely outbox Miroslav Serban and showed his grit when he climbed off the canvas following a heavy knockdown.

Connor Coyle
Middleweight
The Derry fighter returned from illness to make a step up against Travis Scott in Florida and would dominate in the Roy Jones Jr-promoted UFC Fight Pass headliner.

Gabriel Dossen
Middleweight
The Galway fighter came through a minefield on his way to Elite glory, overcoming Michael Nevin, Brett McGinty, and Emmet Brennan as well as a knee injury to claim his first title – and the Best Male Boxer crown.

Kieran Molloy
Welterweight
The Oughterard southpaw retained his title with a win over Paddy Donovan in the Fight of the Championships to strike the first blow in what promises to be an epic rivalry.

Christina Desmond
Welterweight
The Cork puncher returned from a year out and, dropping down in weight, she dethroned Gráinne Walsh to take the Irish top spot as well as the Best Female Boxer award.
