Un-retired John Hutchinson reveals globe-trotting 2018 plans – targets Last Man Standing

The Buncrana Banger is back.

John Hutchinson [10(3)-2(0)-2] has reversed his decision to retire and fights in Sydney this weekend, has 2018 dates in Australia and China and has plans to fight in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Philippines before next year is done.

However, the Donegal middleweight also fancies a trip home to compete in the Ireland’s Last Man Standing contest.

Hutchinson has applied for the Prizefighter style tournament set for the National Stadium in Dublin on March 3rd and has promised fireworks if he is selected to compete.

“I’ve applied for the Last Man Standing,” Hutchinson told Irish-Boxing.com ahead of his six-round comeback bout with ultra-tough Thai journeyman Paitoon Jaikom at the Dee Why RSL

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and it’s a format that best suits my style. Over three rounds I don’t care who I’d box in it. It’s is the kind of format that all but leads to fireworks, which suits me. I love those letting go fights I love.

“I think it’s great for Irish boxing. There could be some great fights in it and it was something I didn’t have to think about applying for, but lets see what happens and pans out now.”

The 31 year old, who is now based between Australia and Thailand, called it a day when he was home in Donegal earlier this year, but now looks set to be busier than any Irish boxer in 2018.

He has signed with Singaporean promotional outfit Ringstar and will be jet-setting around Australasia next year.

“The decision to retire was made too quick and without thinking,” he continued.

“I over-reacted, but either way maybe it was for a reason. It has  lead me to a great country and I have met good people. I’m fresh, back in the gym and loving every minute of training.”

“The break I had made me realise the things I was missing  and it made me come back more determined.”

Outlining his 2018 plans, Hutchinson revealed how “I’ve a busy schedule next year, I have fights all planned out and means I have a plan to my work.”

“I didn’t know what was happening last year waiting on fights, fights falling though and not happening.”

“I’ve signed a promotional deal with Ringstar in Singapore now and I am fighting in Dalian in China, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Bangkok, and the Philippines next year.”

“I love flying and fighting around the world seeing places so it’s a no-brainer and if I can get home to light up Last Man Standing that would be great.”
