Two title fights and a fresh face on Irish-heavy Darragh Foley world title eliminator undercard

A major card of Irish interest will take place in Australia on the morning of St Patrick’s Day with four fighters from these shores featuring.

As announced previously, ‘The Fighting Irish’ card set for Sydney on March 17th is topped by Dublin light welterweight Darragh Foley [14(8)-2(0)].

The latest installment of the Johnny Lewis Boxing Series at The Star is topped by WBA Oceania champion Foley in a world title eliminator with NABA champ Steven Wilcox [18(5)-2(0)-1] of Canada, but the Blanchardstown boxer will not be the only Irishman in action.

Galway light welterweight Gearoid Clancy [8(2)-5(0)] boxes Sam Williams for the New South Wales belt and Donegal middleweight John Hutchinson [12(4)-2(0)-2] fights Craig Parke for the WBC Asia Continental belt, while there is also an appearance for Cork light middleweight pro novice Danny Keating [1(1)-0].

Oughterard’s Clancy has moved up in weight recently and will be looking to become a two-weight NSW champ against Williams [4(0)-5(3)-3] having won the lightweight equivalent back in 2015.

The Galway Assassin is on the comeback trail following three losses in title fights – interspersed with three wins – and an Irish title fight falling through.

Hutchinson, based in Thailand, is continuing his Australasian tour and fights for his first major title belt since losing to Peter McDonagh in 2014- the popular nomad won the WBF Australian title just two weeks ago- against 42-year-old veteran Parke [10(3)-2(0)].

The Buncrana Banger fought two weekends ago, stopping Sivan Hermez in the fourth round of their bout in Kedron.

Mitchelstown’s Keating made an under-the-radar appearance last weekend and registered at the Punch Bowl Arena.

The Watergrasshill BC graduate defeated Aphichat Koedchatturat in impressive fashion- Keating became only the second man to stop the 25-fight journeyman, ending the bout in the third round.

Keating, who won two Irish amateur titles as an underage fighter and represented Ireland internationally before moving to Australia. Mohamad Hosseini [0-1(1)] will provide the opposition for the Cork man’s second fight in less than a month’s time.

All three undercard fighters are managed by Mack The Knife Global who recently announced a partnership with Bondi Boxing Club and Tony Del Vecchio – who trains Keating, Clancy, and Foley. ‘Super’ Foley is not managed by MTK.
