‘Too small, no power’ – Jessica McCaskill will make Katie Taylor quit if they rematch

Jessica McCaskill [7(3)-2(0)] will make Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] ‘quit’ if as planned the pair eventually rematch in a massive undisputed clash, according to the American’s coach and trainer Rick Ramos.

The Chicago fighter gave the now undisputed lightweight world champion her toughest test before the clash with Delfine Persoon – and has been rematch keen ever since.

After that December 2017 top of the bill reverse, CasKILLA moved up in weight and became a unified the WBC and WBA world titles.

As a result the 35-year-old is back on the Bray fighter’s radar again. With fights against Amanda Serrano and the Persoon rematch being left to simmer, Team Taylor have two weight world champion status as their next goal.

A Manchester Arena clash with WBO light welterweight world champion Christina Linardatou appears to be next. If the Wicklow woman manages to win that November 2 clash and McCaskill adds the IBF crown to her list of honours, the American offers the Irish sporting great a chance to become a two-weight undisputed champion.

A rematch will instantly be added to the agenda and will no doubt play out in 2020.

McCaskill’s trainer Ramos isn’t too concerned as to when the rematch happens, he just wants his charge to take the scalp of Taylor at 140lbs.

However, he does admit a repeat for all the marbles would be a mega fight.

In fact it is a mega fight the light welterweight world title holder can’t lose according to Ramos.

“I think it could be huge,” Ramos told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I think a Katie victory is something we wanted before she turned pro. I had my eye on her for years … we won’t lose the rematch. Katie is too small and has no power for 140lbs. Jessica will make her quit. I want this fight in Chicago,” he adds before going into further detail as to why we shouldn’t expect an Irish win if the Matchroom fighters do face off again.

“We are more confident at 140lbs. Jessica has gotten more confident, much better as a fighter and a lot stronger. Katie remains exactly the same since she turned professional. She doesn’t have the right coach. She will get stopped.”

For Ramos’ prediction to come true the fight has to made again. Taylor’s team and Eddie Hearn have talked positively about – albeit without specifying when it may happen – and McCaskill and her team certainly want it.

McCaskill was open to re-matching as early as November, but no offer came, understandably so considering the fight is much bigger when the pair share all the 140lbs belts between them.

Yet, while talks with regard to getting the IBF strap have taken place between McCaskill and Eddie Hearn, Taylor and the undisputed fight haven’t been mentioned according to Ramos.

“We have not been offered a Katie rematch. I am definitely interested in that fight. We have unfinished business with her. We have the more important belts – WBC and the WBA… I think they need us more than we need them.

“Being undisputed is great but everything has to make sense. We want big name fights. Katie is obviously the “name” in female boxing and she has giving us an opportunity so that fight is attractive to me.

“I have talked briefly to Eddie Hearn at Jessica’s last fight. The plan is to unify. A mega fight with Katie is what I would like at the end of this.”

Taylor’s most likely next opponent Domincan born Greek based WBO world champion Linardatou has claimed she has pursued a clash with the WBC and WBA title holder to no avail.

Ramos claims that clash doesn’t make sense pointing out McCaskill’s fellow light welterweight world champion hasn’t got the required profile for the clash.

“With regards to Linardatou, she is relatively unknown to the boxing public. She would need to do more work keeping her name out there for me to even think about giving her an opportunity.

“Like I said  Linardatou is high risk with very little reward. She is unknown to the boxing public and I’m very confident in saying – I don’t think she could sell 100 tickets any where on the planet.

“Linardatou needs to do more work getting her name out there. I don’t give an opportunity to someone because she begged for it. She tried getting the boxing media behind her to rally a fight with Jessica – that didn’t work because no one really knows her.

“My message to her – do more work, Linardatou! Beat Katie and then maybe we can talk.”
