Tommy McCarthy the latest to link-up with Pete Taylor

Tommy McCarthy [15(8)-2(1)] is to switch south as he looks to make a breakthrough in his pro career.

It has been confirmed that the Belfast cruiserweight has joined Pete Taylor’s ever-growing stable in Dublin.

McCarthy announced the news on his social media, saying that “I’m delighted to say that I’ve teamed up with one of the best coaches in the world.”

The 28-year-old is more than familiar with Taylor from their time in the Irish High Performance team.

It’s the latest move for McCarthy who has tried numerous coaching teams throughout his five-year pro career.

Starting with his old Oliver Plunkett’s amateur coach Patsy McAllister, ‘The Mac Attack’ has also worked with Bernardo Checa, Brian Magee, Ensley Bingham, and most recently Tony Dunlop.

Now managed by Mark Dunlop, McCarthy is currently on the comeback trail following his defeat to Richard Riakhporhe in March.

The Lenadoon fighter was due to take on top Italian Fabio Turchi in June but saw this bout fall through just days beforehand and he would subsequently destroy stand-in Francesco Cataldo.

Awaiting a new date, McCarthy is keen to finally make a big breakthrough and claim a first pro title – and Taylor may be the missing ingredient.

McCarthy joins Luke Keeler, Gary Cully, Davey Oliver Joyce, Pierce O’Leary Sam Carroll, James Power, Senan Kelly, Tony McGlynn, Robbie Burke, and Shane Roche on Team Taylor which currently trains out of the Colosseum Gym in Ballyfermot.
