TJ Doheny deserves a rematch but will have to wait his turn reveals Danny Roman

Danny Roman [27(10)-2(0)-1] admits TJ Doheny deserves a rematch following their war last night – but claims he won’t be giving him one just yet.

After sharing the ring with the Portlaoise puncher over 12 entertaining rounds at The Forum in Inglewood, the winner of the high-profile IBF and WBA super bantamweight unification seemed agreeable when talk of a return was raised.

However, it’s not a fight the Mexican-American wants next.

Having added a second belt to his collection live on Sky Sports and DAZN, ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ has set his sights on a third title.

Roman wants WBC world champion Rey Vargas – promoted by DAZN-aligned Golden Boy – next and considering his calls for the champion’s to meet it’s a stance Doheny [21(15)-1(0)] will surely respect.

“Later in the future maybe,” Roman answered when asked about a possible repeat.

“He is a good guy a good fighter and he deserves a rematch, but right now my goal is to fight the next champion, which is Rey Vargas.”

“Give me Rey Vargas, the WBC title.  Rey Vargas is a guy that is strong, he knows how to use his distance so I am going to have to be on top of him the whole fight.”

“Give me Rey Vargas. I want the fight, we are two great champions. Let’s do it.”

Roman was respectful to the former IBF super bantamweight champion in the build-up to the fight and continued to speak highly of his foe post his unification win.

“TJ is a tough guy. You have to give him props. I can’t take anything away form him. He came and gave it everything, but it was just my night,” he added before admitting he felt ‘The Power’s’ power in round seven .

“TJ connected with me good and I was like ‘I can’t brawl with this guy’, so I kept on moving, I got my distance and we boxed.”

I love challenges like these. TJ put up a great fight, but I was too much for him. I knocked him down early, late and roughed him up in the middle.”
