Title fight announced for Sean Creagh

Sean Creagh [8(2)-1(1)] has secured a big fight at the end of the month.

The Tallaght light welterweight has secured a second crack at the BUI Celtic title and will fight Scotland’s Ally Black [8(3)-3(2)-1] for the belt over eight rounds on Saturday April 28th on a bill in Essex at the Brentwood Centre.

‘Creaghzy Horse’ was matched with Tyrone McKenna for the same title back in November 2016 but carried an injury into the bout and missed weight. The former white collar fighter was pulled out by his corner then in the fifth round after shipping a lot of punishment from the Belfast boxer.

McKenna subsequently defended the title with a sixth-round stoppage of another Dubliner in Jake Hanney but the title has since gone vacant, with ‘The Mighty Celt’ about to take on Belfast rival Anto Upton on the big Frampton-Donaire bill on April 21st.

27-year-old Kirkintilloch fighter Black has mixed it at domestic title level previously. Following a fourth-round stoppage to Mitch Buckland in July 2015, he rematched the Welshman for the BBBoC Celtic title that October, being widely outpointed over ten before a seventh-round stoppage loss to former Scottish champion Craig Kelly. Since then Black has drawn with Scottish title challenger Jamie McGuire and stopped the undefeated Mark Weston.

Killinaden 29-year-old Creagh last fought in February, defeating Belfast veteran Jamsey Gorman in a tough six-rounder.

The Dubliner’s management outfit recently announced that they would no longer sign fighters from the Republic of Ireland or look to feature on Boxing Union of Ireland shows. Due to this, it was unknown whether the BUI would be keen to sanction title fights for these boxers. This has been clarified with the sanctioning of Creagh for the BUI Celtic 140lbs belt.

Creagh v Black looks to be the chief support bout on the Johnney Roye-promoted show which will be streamed live online via YouTube channel IFL TV.

Siar Ozgul goes for the BBBoC Southern Area light welterweight title on the card while there are also appearances for Martin McDonagh, Ben Hall, Dan Azeez, Kaan Hawes, Charlie Duffield, Ben Smith, Jack Healy, Georgii Bacon, Idris Hill, Spiros Demetriou, Sammy McNess, Richie Gray, Mitchell Frearson, and Zuhayr Al Qahtani.
