Thunder struck- Caoimhin Agyarko registers stoppage win in York Hall

Caoimhin Agyarko registered another impressive early win in York Hall tonight.

‘Black Thunder’ left Nelson Altamirano thunder struck as he pushed his winning run to five since turning over with Queensbury promotions just under a year ago.

The 22-year-old was fighting in his first eight round contest, but needed less that three to get the win.

The Belfast fighter stopped the Spain based Nicaraguan in the third round after inflicting damage from early on.

Altamirano was possibly a step down from Agyarko’s last opponent, Scot Paul Allison. The 28-year-old didn’t bring a winning record to the ring for starters and had been stopped in three of his last five.

However, Agyarko ensured the difference in class was apparent by dominating and getting his man out early.

The Holy Trinity graduate may want one more fight before the end of the year and before he goes in search of some domestic or ranking belts.

Speaking ahead of his second career stoppage win on the undercard of Sunny Edwards and and Hugo Guarneros, Agyarko told Irish-boxing.com he was hoping to fight for the Irish light middle or middleweight title.

“The Irish title is definitely on my radar. I hope to to fight for a title next year some time I don’t want to be rushed but I am definitely ready,”

“[Craig O’Brien] is a fight I would take 100% at light middle. Then at middle I’m sure Luke [Keeler]will vacate and move on to world level, so whoever would be next in line for that I’d fight. There’s nobody in particular I want to fight, but if I got offered to fight for the belt against a solid opponent I would.”

Speaking after the fight the prospects promoter not only backed him to reach the top, but to go down as an all time great.

Queensbury’s Francis Warren – not to be mistaken with Frank Warren – was full of praise for the 22-year-old, looked into his crystal ball and said that Agyarko “will be a world champion. He is absolute class in and out of the ring and is destined to be one of the greats. Determined, Disciplined, gifted.”
