Gary Cully [9(4)-0] has revealed talks are in place to make a domestic title fight between the Kildare native and Joe Fitzpatrick [10(7)-0].

The Naas fighter was yesterday confirmed as one of the Ulster Hall February 1 #MTKFightNight participants, but fight confirmation didn’t come with an opponent.

However, it seems there is an interesting clash in the works.

‘The Diva’ confirmed that talks are underway with BUI Celtic Champion Joe Fitzpatrick and the pair could serve up a mouthwatering domestic dust up on the first Irish card of the year.

Post winning the BUI Celtic title, Fitzpatrick was eager to point out he was the best at the weight in Ireland.

‘The Dragon’ proceeded to call out four Irish fighters in an attempt to set up a high profile Irish title fight.

Boxing Ireland promoter Leonard Gunning stoked the flames further by claiming a number of domestic names had turned down advances to fight the Commonwealth Games medalist.

Cully was quick to reply and the verbal sparring continue via Irish-boxing.com.

The 23-year-old accused Divas favourite Fitzpatrick and his team of lacking substance, claiming they were all talk no action.

The public spat increased interest in the fight and fans will be excited to hear moves are being made to get it made as early as February.

With both eager for it there shouldn’t be too many stumbling blocks in terms of agreeing terms, although with Celtic Clash 10 rumoured to be taking place around the same time in the same city, Boxing Ireland may not to be too keen to have their Belfast headliner topping another bill.
