Teen star McKenna ready to dazzle on DAZN against unbeaten Mexican

Aaron McKenna [6(4)-0] is ready to start what he believes will be a ‘great year’ with a bang on Saturday night.

While a host of Irish pugilists will be increasing their profile at home on a TG4 broadcast bill this coming Saturday, the Monaghan man will be afforded to the chance to impress a large American and even global audience.

The Golden Boy fighter fights live on the DAZN Network, from the Fantasy Springs Resort, in Indio, California and is excited about making a positive start to 2019.

The teen welterweight has impressed every time he has taken to the ring and he wants to continue to make people sit up and take note on his DAZN debut.

Having what can be deemed a break for the extremely active pro, the Smithboro man is keen to return to action and plans to start a year which he hopes holds a title shot within it with a win.

“I am really looking forward to this fight, I can’t wait to get back in the ring”, said McKenna when speaking to Maxboxing.

“I am in the best shape of my career, I have done about 180 rounds of sparring and this is by far the strongest I have ever felt and I know it’s going to show in the ring on the 30th.”

Despite his tender years the fighter, whose brother Stevie has just joined him in the pro ranks and debuts in two weeks, seems to have the trust and faith of Golden Boy and Sheer Sports.

Four of the 19 year old’s six opponents boast winning records and he expects the undefeated Loretta Olivas [3(1)-0] of Los Mochis, Mexico, to test him further this weekend.

“I know that this is a tough fight with this undefeated fighter who is 3-0. He he is a tough Mexican, but I am excited to test myself against him.”

While the Courage Tshabalala trained fighter is expecting a test it’s one he expects to pass. McKenna believes victory Stateside on Saturday will begin another busy year that he hopes ends with a title shot.

“I’m really excited to get back in the ring to start this year off, I know it’s going to be a great year”, he continues.

“This is my second 6 round fight, and I am looking forward to that. I’d like to get 5 or 6 fights in this year, keep busy and move to 8 rounders.

“Then, I’d really like to be challenging for a small belt by the end of the year, or early next year.”
