With the WBA Oceania title now wrapped around his waist, Darragh Foley [9(7)-2(0)] is now ready to build towards a World title.

The Blanchardstown light welterweight won the continental belt and assumedly an accompanying Top 15 ranking with the organisation last month with a sixth round knockout of Joebert De los Reyes, exerting revenge for a previous split decision defeat in the process.

The 27 southpaw now has his sights set on bigger prizes, and told the Northside People.

“World Champion! That’s the ultimate goal.”

“Hopefully when these rankings come out next month I’ll be in the top 15, which on paper, makes me eligible to fight for a World title.”

“If I get into the top 15 it’s just all about building, building and building; to get me into that position where I can fight for a World title. That’s the dream.”

The power-punching crowd-favourite has built a big reputation Down Under and is now reaping the rewards, becoming a full-time fighter. He explained that “It’s hard because you’re a professional athlete but you’re still working as well and the prize money isn’t that great. It’s not enough to get by, but thankfully I’m after working my way up to a point where now I’m fully professional.”

“All I do is train in the morning, rest all day, then train in the evening. Right now I’m where I always wanted to be and where I thought I could be when I first booked those flights to Australia.”
