Summer Brawl – SHOW UPDATE

Details on the boxing’s big return to the Europa Hotel have started to emerge.

Saturday May 18th plays host to the second MHD Promotions bill of the year with ‘Summer Brawl’ set for the famous Belfast Hotel.

One opponent has been confirmed so far while another new fighter has today been added to the dinner show.

It has today been confirmed that Dublin’s BUI Celtic light welterweight champion Victor Rabei [7(2)-0] will appear on the card.

Rathmichael’s Rabei will box in a six-round contest as he stays busy following his successful title defence versus Jake Hanney live on TG4 at the National Stadium last month.

The Steven O’Rourke-trained fighter joins James Tennyson, who he spent time sparring with in his last camp, Paul Hyland Jr, Feargal McCrory, and Cathy McAleer on the bill.

An opponent for McAleer [2(0)-0] has also been confirmed.

The 40-year-old Belfast bantamweight seps up to six rounds on the show and looks to have a tricky enough test.

McAleer has been matched with Romanian Cristina Busuioc [0-1(0)-1].

In her debut back in February the Eastern European held Spaniard Cristina Garrobo to a credible draw over six rounds while she was beaten last month by new Matchroom prospect Shannon Courtenay.

McAleer came through a debut scare versus Bulgarian Teodora Hristova and looked improved on the most recent MHD show – ‘A Night To Remember’ at the Ulster Hall – where she defeated Poland’s Sonia Klos.

Opponents for Tennyson, Hyland, McCrory and Rabei fights will be confirmed in due course.

‘Summer Brawl’ is part of what looks to be a major weekend of boxing in Belfast with Ryan Burnett reportedly set to return to the ring the night previous [Friday May 17th] atop the latest edition of the #MTKFightNight series at the Ulster Hall.

In addition, Boxing Ireland Promotions will run ‘Celtic Clash 8’ in Belfast on a to-be-confirmed date also around this time.
