Spike O’Sullivan: Eubank has no excuses now he has to fight me in October

GARY ‘Spike’ Sullivan wants to take the frustration of his domestic grudge match with Anthony Fitzgerald falling through on none other than Chris Eubank Jr.

And now that he is free to fight the Cork middleweight claims the undefeated prospect has no excuse not to fight him this coming October.

The former Irish champion had been calling out the son of the British boxing legend for over a year only for his fight requests to fall on deaf ears. However, as soon as O’Sullivan agreed to fight Fitzgerald on the postponed August 30 show  team Eubank offered the Celtic Warrior Gym puncher a July 26 fight with the controversial name.

Indeed post his most recent win Eubank expressed his desire to go through the ‘bums’ that were name dropping him and listed ‘Spike’ as one fighter he wanted to knock out.

O’Sullvian told Irish-boxing.com that Eubank no longer has any excuse and has offered to fight him when the English man returns to the ring in Liverpool on October 25.

“I am free to fight now. let’s see if Eubank will back up what he has been saying. He says he wants to fight me, but I suspect he is all mouth. I am ready to fight him and if he has a date lined up for October I will get in the ring and shut him up then. We are both free now so he has no more excuses.

The Pascal Collins trained fighter, whose sole career defeat came against Billy Joe Saunders, is free to agree a fight with Eubank because his eagerly anticipated domestic dust up with Anthony Fitzgerald went down with the fall of the Return of The Mack card.

O’Sullivan is ‘gutted’ he has been denied the chance to settle his differences with the Dublin puncher and hopes that fight can be rescheduled.

“I am gutted that fight fell through,” he added. “Gutted for so many reasons. First the chance to finally beat Fitzgerald. The plan was to out do how Andy Lee did against him, look good on Sky and then call out Matthew Macklin. I was very confident with how training was going and I was confident I was going to do a number on Fitzy. It is also my daughters birthday on August 30 so it would have been nice to dedicate the win to her.

“Hopefully that fight can be made for when Sky and Eddie Hearn comeback.”
