‘Slick Vic’ Rabei to take on English opposition in Belfast

Victor Rabei is the latest addition to the ‘He Who Dares’ card set for Belfast next month.

The two time BUI Celtic light welterweight champion faces an interesting fight as he takes on England’s Sam Jones.

The Moldovan Dub will be favourite heading into a clash, but it’s not quite a fight against journey man opposition for the Steven O’Rourke trained fighter.

The Bournmouth native was last seen in Ireland being stopped by new Boxing Ireland signing Francy Luzoho, a win that was heralded as one of the more sensational debuts in recent times, but has six wins from eight fights and won’t lie down for ‘Slick Vic’.

The pair will trade leather at the Devenish on October 25 and the clash could prove one of the more entertaining on the card.

It will be the third time 25-year-old Rabei will have fought in 2019. However, having started the year with a high profile points win over Jake Hanney live on TG4 the St Michael’s Gym Inchicore fighter may have expected some more progressive fights of late.

He will be hoping victory on the Mickey Helliet Slater Sports fight card will lead to another big fight with another domestic clash before the end of the year a possibility.

Rabei joins Olympic captain Darren O’Neill, who will debut on the card – the former amateur standout jumping straight into a light heavyweight six rounder.

Dylan Moran of Waterford will also appear in what will be his second fight in a matter of weeks – the first playing out in Mexico.

Undefeated light middleweight Cillian Reardon takes a step up as he faces Jake Best, a fighter who holds a win over Cavan’s Owen Duffy.

‘The Freak’ Matthew Fitzsimons makes his return to the ring and adds further Belfast interest as does debutant Ruadhan Farrell.

Also on the Mickey Helliet Slater Sports show will Rabei’s table mate heavyweight Paddy Nevin.

After his last win on the Summer Brawl card in Belfast, Rabei was hoping for a Moldovan fight- but a proposed WBC CISBB title fight never materalised.
